I have been raising fish for over 35 years...including marine fish and invertebrates and freshwater fish including cichlids. This book does an excellent job of reviewing how to set up a successful African Cichlid tank, in particular how to establish the proper water requirements necessary for long term success including the parameters for successful breeding. There are many good color pictures in the book as well. The only complaint I have is that like every other book I have read, the fish are described by their scientific names instead of their common names. Also, I am still searching for a book that covers the cichlids that are commonly found in fish stores.
I have been dealing with mostly Tiger Barbs, Cory Cats, plecos and such. After several years of trail and error I feel I have a good handle on these types of fish. I now felt confident enough to venture out into the larger more beautiful and more expensive Cichlids that I have always admired. This book is great it is laid out well and easy to understand. I hope that with my previous experience and the knowledge I gained from this book that I won't make as many mistakes as I have in the past. It takes time, patience and disipline to make it in this hobby. Keep educating yourself through books and all the info out there on the internet and you will find this a rewarding hobby indeed.
I found this book very educational, enlightening, and useful.There are new things to learn and other things covered in more basic books, but this one is definitely more advanced and educational-when it comes to cichlids and particularly African cichlids.
