John Layman is the creator, writer and letterer of CHEW, the New York Times best-selling, Harvey Award and multi-Eisner Award winning cannibal cop comedy series from Image Comics. Layman was an editor for WildStorm Production and has written or lettered for every major publisher in comics for the last decade and a half. He’s written Cyclops, Detective Comics, Mars Attacks, Godzilla, Aliens, Thundercats, Gambit, Scarface, Red Sonja, Marvel Zombies Vs. I got this when it was on sale, I'm a Funko collector and thought it would be interesting to check out. I wasn't really a fan of anything in here besides TMNT, but surprisingly the TMNT issue was not my favorite part of this collection. I didn't read the Ghostbusters issue, I'm saying that upfront, Ghostbusters just isn't something I've ever really been interested in, so I don't have very much to say about it. The TMNT issue takes place in the original cartoon universe and while I liked it okay, it wasn't quite what I was expecting. It was funny, but the comedy mostly comes from the references to all the cliches from the old show and I liked that to some extent, I just wished there was a little more to the humor besides that. I didn't like it as much as I wanted to, but it was okay. The real surprises for me were the X-Files and Judge Dread issues. The X-Files is a show that I have seen a couple episodes of, I can appreciate it, but it isn't something I watch regularly or anything. The X-Files issue is made up of shorter stories and I really enjoyed them. They're all really funny and I was surprised that I ended up liking it more than the TMNT issue. Judge Dread was also made up of shorter stories, and they were also really funny, I loved the one with the dog. The Strawberry Shortcake issue was okay, again I'm not a big fan so I don't really know anything about Strawberry Shortcake, but it was enjoyable enough.The art for all of these are all done in slightly different versions of the Funko Pop style, I thought it was pretty cool, but if you're not really a fan of Funko Pops, then you probably won't like it very much.Overall this was an okay collection, but I really only recommend it if you're looking for some laughs and are a Funko collector and fan, and a fan of at least two or three of the franchises in here.

We travel to CR yearly and I’ve contemplated buying a home there, expanding my business, or investing in a greater way. This book covers many of the common concerns, as well as some of the hinky laws and banking issues that make it difficult as a US citizen. I’m still on the fence, but have a better understanding than from what I’d obtained down there. Would love to take these folks to dinner in Playa Langosta; they have a great consulting opportunity with those of us baby boomers considering the plunge! Pura Vida!

A lot of good ideas....but the authors aren't good negotiators....they said to expect to pay about $85. a day for a rental car ... I left for Costa Ricatwo days after I got the book in the mail....and I got a car for $38.00 per day. I have a Capital One Venture card ( which is a card that coversphysical damage to the vehicle your renting ), so all I needed was the liability ( which by the way was the same card the Page's said they used ??).They will try to hit you with a huge damage deposit (like $5,000 !) I talked them down to $3,000. That's a deposit you get back a few days after renting.

Interesting read. I've visited Costa Rica (Tamarindo and Playa Flamingo) a few times but never thought of moving there. I've met a few American's that have made the same choice. I enjoyed learning what's it's like to be an expat in Costa Rica.

This is a good, quick read for anyone thinking of relocating or even visiting Costa Rica for an extended period of time. Although most of the “action” takes place around a small area of the country the book gives a good overview of what to expect when in CR.

It is 4 AM and I have just finished reading, in one sitting, the Kindle download of a book that I only intended to skim because I thought that I knew the full story. What was compelling was encountering the courage and decency of this whistleblower and that of the few brave journalists willing to honestly tell his story. That and the justifiable contempt for those in the housebroken media and compromised government who felt the need to besmirch the character of those willing to bear witness to crimes that almost everyone else in a position to know chose to ignore. The result is a page turner survey of just what the Snowden leaks tell us about the creation of the modern surveillance state and a reminder of the deep wisdom of this nation's founders in insisting on the Constitution's Fourth Amendment. This is a brilliant book that you will want to pass on to that neighbor absolutely convinced that the hollowing out of liberty has made us safer. Glenn Greenwald reminds us just why the Guardian and Washington Post won the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service in publishing the documents that Edward Snowden made available and how outrageous it is that his effort to inform the public of attacks on their freedom has left this brave young man a hunted fugitive.

In his new book, No Place to Hide, Greenwald briefly goes over his adventures/experience on meeting with Edward Snowden and revealing US's NSA surveillance program. Greenwald explains the difficulties and obstacles that were involved before the story went live, mostly by reluctant lawyers, and news agencies such as NYT and Washington Post. For those curious, Greenwald also explains in detail the true intentions of Edward Snowden.Later chapters of the book reveal Greenwald's opinion on the recent NSA leaks, and his classification of US as a surveillance state.Keep in mind that Greenwald was previously a columnist, and his writing style of a columnist is clearly seen throughout the book. This is not merely a book with facts, but a book with opinion, with logical and concrete evidence that not just the U.S., but other state actors are well, are progressing into what George Orwell wrote in his infamous 1984 novel (Orwellian state).Greenwald ends the book by warning the consequences involved as we progress into the Orwellian state and the issue of journalists not being journalists, but being government puppets instead.This is a highly recommended book for those who wish to read into detail one of the biggest government leaks in the history.

The answer to the question posed in the title of this review is a definite yes, and follows vacuously if, as the author of this book asserts, that the National Security Agency (NSA) collects data at the scale claimed. This scale covers every person on the planet, and therefore the NSA views everyone as a potential terrorist. Information on everyone is collected and then stored in the NSA’s data repositories, which indeed must be massive in order to store this magnitude of data. Edward Snowden, a former contractor for the company Booz-Allen-Hamilton (BAH), has revealed that the NSA is engaging in this activity. Snowden was placed by BAH in the NSA to engage in security work some of which was classified as Top Secret. As this book and ensuing documentaries reveal, because of moral and ethical reasons Snowden made the decision to abrogate the trust the NSA placed in him and put himself at risk for an extended prison term because of the information he chose to place in the public domain.The author of this book makes a good case for the morality behind Snowden’s decision, and therefore readers who formally viewed Snowden as a “criminal” or a “narcissist” may make a different assessment of his character after finishing the book. There is no doubt that Snowden did not view his decision as one of self-aggrandizement, and in fact exercised restraint in the sense he chose to not reveal information that could put people at severe risk. It might be a leap to call Snowden a “hero”, but he certainly possesses a level of intestinal fortitude that is unmatched by anyone in the government, whether the United States government or otherwise.The details of some of the revealed information are included in this book as images, with some of them actually looking as though they originated in PowerPoint presentations. That this may be the case reflects the obsession that many, especially those connected with the Department of Defense (DoD), have in using PowerPoint to not only summarize ideas but also to codify the information in them as valid, authentic, or profound. Therefore it was difficult for the reviewer to accept the author’s (implicit) premise that the information in these images as reflecting anything of genuine importance to those readers who want to understand the extent of the NSA’s illegal surveillance. Typical government/DoD PowerPoint presentations, even though quite impressive from an artistic point of view, reflect a naiveté about scientific and technological matters in general. There is no reason to believe that this is not the case also for the NSA, in spite of the imputation of technical and mathematical competence given to it.And this raises the further question as to the efficacy of the NSA in doing the analysis and data mining that would actually put individual privacy at risk. Many in the press have claimed that the NSA hires thousands of mathematicians and analysts and this is no doubt true. But what is not obvious from the press or from this book is the extent that this technical pseudo-army is able to extract damaging information about citizens or indeed any really useful information at all. The mere presence of thousands of analysts and mathematicians in a government agency may reflect the usual practice of patronage and other faulty and unethical governmental hiring practices rather than actual technical competence.But one could also argue, and it seems to be the belief of the author, that the NSA is technically competent to use the gathered information to find individuals who it deems are “harmful” to the interests of the United States. Then since the NSA has no qualms in violating the constitutional rights of US citizens by collecting “metadata” then it would not be an unreasonable assumption that it would collect the actual content of phone calls, Email messages, and so on. It would also not be unreasonable to assume that the NSA would deliberately alter the content of messages and phone calls in order to embarrass certain individuals or groups as part of their security strategy or simply from just pure meanness. There is ample precedent in history for the meanness of governments.

Eartha Kitt is an extraordinary woman. Since I learned of her childhood and adolescence, I've been fascinated as to how she not only managed to survive the horrors of her upbringing but became a great success. Her down to earth lifestyle and style of writing gives a glimpse into her life and how anyone can accomplish a healthy regime. I greatly admire her and this book doesn't disappoint. Her approach to life is so beautiful. Finding the happiness in everyday living.

What a wonderful book...I am so grateful I saw Eartha Kitt on Broadway with a standing ovation when she went on stage at The Wild Party...what a moment...reading her book now makes me understand her gigantic presence of such a tiny fabulous lady.

What an amazing woman!! This book is both beautifully written and full of fantastic advice. I highly recommend it!!

This woman was fearless, unique, wise, talented, thoughtful and what a survivor!. Who would not want to learn from her and she shares gladly. Ms Kitt figured it out especially when it comes to being a woman and dealing with issues women face and she believes in total health (mental and physical) and share with the reader her own ideas and recommendations. She engages and encourages the reader...providing space in the books pages for the reader to think and write (that's unique).

This is one of 4 books written by Eartha Kitt and I highly recommend making it a reading project to read all of them. She is one amazing lady and the story of her childhood leaves you with your mouth open and in wonder at her strength and belief in self.This book touches on stories from all through her life along with basic but very solid advice on how to maintain good health. I got it from a library to read first, and it was so good that I bought it to have for reference and inspiration. Eartha is 85 as of now (8/07) and STILL doing shows from time to time at the Carlisle Hotel & Carnegie Hall in New York, and she was even in an off-Broadway play in 2007. She should be given the spotlight in many more venues, especially on TV, and someone should arrange a tribute. I clearly remember her on radio & TV when I was a little kid, but I had no idea about her background or how she got where she did. This woman is one of the most interesting and inspiring and strongest women I've ever known of.By the way, I think other straight White women should get a clue --Eartha belongs to everyone, but this icon needs more press and more appreciation!

In this book, Ms. Kitt shared how she prepared for her daily life by keeping a healthy, positive attitude and a love for life. Before reading this book I didn't know much about her. It is a simple book with very basic messages: eat right, care about your body, think the right thoughts, etcetera. When you do these things, you are in a better position to be ready for whatever life sends your way.

Ms. Eartha Kitt's beauty and longevity comes from her totally beautiful mind and spirit. In my opinion she holds her own among the greatest mystics of our time. She makes each moment and movement count and she is fully engaged in it. Ms. Kitt even inspires me to relish my housecleaning chores - she is an inspiration to anyone!

I have been using aquafaba (the liquid from a can of chickpeas or other bean) since Goose first started writing about it (he and I are friends on Facebook, and part of some of the same veg*n groups on Facebook). So, I've been using aquafaba for well over a year and a half.Two things that I want to say right up front: This is an amazing discovery not only for vegans, but for *anybody* who can't eat eggs. And this is *not* like *any* other egg 'substitute' out there. It is *JUST LIKE EGG WHITES*!!!And secondly, NO! It does *NOT* taste like beans! In fact, I've shocked people who eat my meringue cookies, and my meringue pies, when I tell them what it's made from.*YOU CANNOT TELL THE DIFFERENCE!!*All it takes is one time of whipping this liquid in your mixer into an *identical* substance as whipped egg whites to turn any non-believer into a believer.I'm including pictures of the aquafaba whipped in my Kitchenaid, and then both meringue cookies, and a vegan meringue pumpkin pie that I made for Thanksgiving last year. (Easy peasy - get the vegan pumpkin pie from Whole Foods, whip up some aquafaba meringue, spread it over the pie, and bake!)While there are tons of great resources online and in the Facebook group (search for the 'Aquafaba (AKA the original "Vegan Meringue - Hits and Misses!" ' group)), what has been missing has been a proper aquafaba cookbook!So THANK YOU, Zsu Dever, for writing this (and kudos for having Goose write the forward!)Now, all this said, Zsu didn't just slap together any old book and get it up online in order to be among the first, like *some* 'cookbook' authors do (I'm looking at you, Instant Pot book and Air Fryer book authors).No, *this* book is an *incredibly* well-done book in its own right!The pictures are gorgeous, the binding is very professional.But above all, the *information*, and the *recipes* are WONDERFUL!!Yes, you truly can make egg-free meringue, vegan 'butter', egg-free vegan mayonnaise, and so many other treats with the liquid from the lowly bean!And what do I do with the chickpeas after getting the aquafaba out of the can? I salt and season them and throw them in the dehydrator - they make a wonderful, crunchy snack!By the way, you *can* make your own aquafaba if you don't want to use canned chickpeas, but I find having these "egg whites" sitting in the pantry for whenever I need them so very convenient.

This is a one-of-a-kind, innovative cookbook for anyone wishing to learn how to use the versatile and trendy new ingredient, aquafaba, in their cooking. It is clear that a huge amount of time and experimentation went into this book, and the resulting recipes are carefully and clearly written with absolutely delicious results. If you are familiar with this ingredient you might assume a book focusing on the use of Aquafaba would be full of recipes for sweets such as lemon meringue pie. But in fact, there is a huge variety of recipes in here from quiche, to cheese, to meatballs, etc., plus an entire chapter on delicious ways to use the leftover chickpeas that you will have stocked in your freezer once you start cooking from this book.I have so far made 30 recipes from this book, and can honestly say I would make every one of them again. Some of the stand-outs for me are:Chile Relleno Quiche - so creamy and extremely flavorful, this quiche has a really nice kick to itSun Dried Tomato Quiche - another great quiche which is so versatile, I have also tried it with Kalamata olives, delicious!Pound Cake - perfect texture, served with berries and coconut whipped cream it was the perfect dessertEgg Roll Wrappers - these came out almost exactly like store bought wrappers, only better. I made round ones for potstickers and will not be buying store-bought wrappers ever again.Coconut Key-Lime Cream Pie - my friends couldn't get over how light and creamy and delicious this wasChocolate Ice Cream - wow!Country-Style Aged Sharp Cheddar Cheese - this cheese was incredible. Even better than Miyoko's Creamery gourmet cheeses.Peruvian Roasted Chickpea Potato Bowl - Amazing flavorsShiro Wot - Again, amazing flavorsKorean Dak Galbi - Did I say amazing flavors yet?Yogurt - I made this in my Instant Pot and it was so easy and the results were creamy and delicious.Lemon Poppyseed Muffins - These were so light and flavorful, and when I drizzled a simple royal icing over it (recipe also in the book) it was like a decadent dessert.As you can see, the variety of recipes in this book is amazing! And nearly all of the ingredients are very easy to find. The difficulty level varies from very simple to somewhat complex, but even the complex recipes are well worth the time for the results you will get. I can't wait to try more of the recipes. Never throw away your bean cooking water again!

I am 4 recipes into this book and they are great. I had no idea that liquid from beans could do this. I have bought other books from this author and I have never been disappointed. If you are vegan and like to cook then you have to have this knowledge.

I wasn't an aquafaba-believer, but figured it was worth a try to get this book. DANG, I was wrong! Aquafaba is the BOMB. We buy chickpeas all the time now, just to get at that magical liquid! Start with the vegan meringue cookies (page 104). This alone will make you fall in love with the cookbook and aquafaba in general. Yeah, we've made them several times and you can easily double the batch for parties or cookie swaps.Don't stop there, though - try the Mississippi Mud Pie on page 90, the Chile Quiche on page 50 and the simple pancakes on page 30. All are serious winners! Even if you're new to using aqaufaba, the book has your covered because there is a several page primer to get you going and help with any issues that arise. It's simple to follow and use! I was short in time to study for the bcps exam, but this book was the only prep book I bought and went through completely before the exam. I used this book to identify my weakest topics and then read more from other resources on those topics only. It did a good job to highlight the essential points to know, since the exam itself has such a broad range of topics. And it did help me pass on first try.

To give you some context, I have been eyeing the BCPS for 7 years as a pharmacist. I usually spend more time in the ICU or ER than I do in pediatrics, OR, etc. This is meant for the pharmacist that has done the clinical work, but needs to refresh on other topics that they forgot or haven't really utilized in their field of work. I have attended the ASHP BCPS review and the ACCP BCPS review. I recommend taking the ACCP review (WITH THE EXTRA BIOSTATISTICS COURSE) for a more in depth review. They have a fall review (Oct.) in Arizona, and a winter review (Feb.) in Florida. The ASHP review (at the Mid-Year meeting during December) had some interesting portions, but some lecturers who couldn't care less and cannot pace the lectures. You pay $500+ for the class! This book will not tell you everything, but it will remind you of the material we all studied to get where we are. I just check Lexi-Comp or Uptodate on my phone for more detailed information. It does push other studying material for a separate site, but it is about 3 pages worth of it. Overall, it is a useful tool to use to refresh!

Used this book to prepare for the BCPS exam and found it to be extremely helpful (and I did pass!) I honestly didn’t know where to start to prepare myself and this format made it easy to cover a bulk of material. Thanks!

Amazing book! This really helped me prepare for my pharmacy rotations by highlighting the most important things. It is so useful, rather than going through 3 years of classnotes. I truly appreciate this book greatly!

I have found typos, but I like the brevity of each subject review. I don't believe this would prepare one for the exam ad hoc, but maybe a good review before the exam.

Like the book. Very concise! One error: page 110, "GLP-1 Inhibitors", should be "GLP-1 ANALOGS".

Great book. I am using it to prepare for nurse practitioner boards and appreciate the bullet point format and clinical applications.
